Located to the north-east of Hagia Sophia, this hospice dates back to at least the start of the sixth century. Destroyed during the Nika riots in 532, it was rebuilt and served as place of confinement for John of Ephesus in 571/572, as is narrated in Joh. Eph., EH 2.4-7.
