            Arguably Justinian's most important diplomat, Peter was sent as envoy to the Ostrogoths in the 530s and concluded the peace treaty with the Sasanian Empire in 562. As magister officiorum, he was a central figure at the imperial court from 539 to 565. His son Theodore was involved in negotiations with the Persians in the 570s.
