            When Anatolius, governor of the Osrhoene, had narrowly escaped capture after attending a pagan ritual in Edessa, he immediately went to the anonymous bishop of Edessa in order to have a theological discussion with him. According to Joh. Eph., EH 3.28, he hoped that he could thus acquire an alibi for the night, yet his scheme was unsuccessful.
