It was built in the fifth century, but was reduced to ruins shortly before 1203. It produced two Patriarchs and eleven bishops. In Dolabani's translation of Barsoum's description ܘܐܰܦܶܩ should read ܘܰܐܦܶܩ and ܒܰܓܙܝܪܬܳܐ should read ܒܓܳܙܪܬܳܐ.
