            The monumental complex of the Nea Church in Jerusalem, dedicated to the Mother of God, included a monastery and was founded by Justinian in 543. Joh. Eph., EH 1.32, mentions that Photius, stepson of Belisarius, was abbot of the monastery belonging to the church.
