“A eunuch from Persarmenia, Narses rose to become one of the most important generals of Justinian. He completed the conquest of Italy in the 550s and ruled the peninsula as patricius before being recalled to Constantinople by Justin II. Joh. Eph., EH 1.39, remembers him as founder of a monastery in Bithynia.” 4
