“ܠܒܰܪ ܡܶܢ ܐܳܡܝܕ ܕܰܝܪܳܐ ܪܰܒܐ ܘܰܛܒܝܒܳܐ. ܢܦܰܩ ܡܶܢܗ ܐܝܘܰܐܢܝܣ ܩܰܕܡܳܝܐ 755 ܘܐܰܪܒܰܥܣܰܪ ܐܶܦܝܣܩܘ̈ܦܶܐ.” 2
“بظاهر ديار بكر دير عظيم مشهور نشأ منه اياونيس الاول 755+ واربعة عشر اسقفاً” 3
“outside Diyarbakir, is a famous, great monastery. Patriarch John I (d. 775) and fourteen bishops graduated from it.” 4
Notes
In Dolabani's translation of Barsoum's description “ܘܐܰܪܒܰܥܣܰܪ” should read “ܘܰܐܪܒܰܥܣܰܪ” .
In Barsoum's description “اياونيس” should read “ايوانيس” .
In Moosa's English translation of Barsoum's description, "775" should be "755."
